I just got a new digital camera to go with my nice new laptop.
I got the canon S5 IS ... I was reluctant about buying it. $350 is a lot of money, and that's before accessories like memory card, batteries, bag ... Thank you government rebate, come on student loans. heh.
But it's a great camera so far. It really showed it's worth once I got it out of the store. You can research, you can test it out for hours in the store (which I did) ... but you really don't know till you get it home and under real life conditions.
This camera kicks my last camera's ass (the Fuji Film Fine Pix s700). For one thing, it accurately captures color and lighting. My Fuji (RIP) had a major issue with indoor lighting. An issue I didn't notice in store and could have only guessed at from reviews.
One thing I can say for the Fuji is that I loved it's super macro mode with the digital zoom. My new Canon however can focus as close as ZERO centimeters in Super Macro. And it has an optional lens for even more macro fun.
I recommend this camera, and I bet a lot of others do to. It was out of stock at several stores in my area.
